Dates to Remember:

Sonoma Sister Cities is adopting the Ukrainian holiday, First Bell, for the first time this year.  A special event is being planned in the Sonoma Plaza Park on Sunday, August 24th, to celebrate the beginning of the school year, as they do in our sister city, Kaniv, Ukraine.  All Sonoma Valley students, teachers, and their families are invited to attend. There will be a ceremony where students and teachers in attendance will be recognized and entertainment will be provided by Sister Cities, as well.  Refreshment stands will also be available.

Please come to the Sonoma Plaza on Sunday, August 24th, at 4:00 pm to help celebrate the beginning of the 2008-09 school year.   We hope that our school will be well represented at this unique new Sonoma event

The Welcome Back Family Picnic will be on Friday, September 5th. More information will follow. Please bring a picnic, make some new friends, and see your old friends.

Back to School Parent Information Night: Thursday, September 11th from 6:00-7:30 PM. This evening is for teachers to inform you about class expectations, curriculum, and your role in the school partnership and is for adults only.

Staff and Classrooms: We are thrilled to have Anne Estes as our new fifth grade teacher. Ms. Estes has worked previously in the district as the independent study teacher and as a fifth grade teacher at Dunbar School. We welcome her to our school and to our new classroom, room 65 located next to Mrs. Haber’s and Mrs. Goddard’s rooms. Another change to our staff is that Eran Glago will be our new computer lab technician. Previously, he was an instructional assistant and ran our sports at lunch program.

Class Assignments: Kindergarten parents will be receiving letters with class assignments. The rest of you get to have the excitement of seeing your names on the classroom doors after 4:00 PM on August 19th. A map of the classrooms will be in the glass case located outside the office, and class lists will be posted on the classroom doors.

Help Wanted: We are looking for noon duty supervisors for two hours a day from 11:30-1:00 and an office assistant from 8:15-2:15. Check the SVUSD Website for information on applying.

We are also looking for a 3 hour instructional assistant in the morning. Please let us know if you are interested.

School Supplies and Copy Paper: It appears from all of the television ads that the Back to School sales are in full swing. A ream or a case of copy paper anytime during the year is so appreciated it especially in the beginning of the school year.
